Web Design Manifesto: Modern First Impression

by | Apr 24, 2017

Greetings all, my name is Mitch Fodstad and I created VenturePure (VP) — my brand for freelance web design and development, in addition to web management. In this post, I’d like to share my thoughts on time, branding, and first impressions in today’s digital landscape. Each of these items factor into the VP Web Design Manifesto.

So, without further ado, let’s dive in.

Simply put, anyone can learn how to build a website nowadays. It just takes time, especially to create a brand-tailored website — one that’s search engine optimized, but that’s a whole new conversation.

As business owners, we want potential clients and/or fans to experience two things when they visit our websites: visual pleasure and brand clarity.

See, each business venture is a risk-filled journey in a sense, and we don’t want our websites to add more risk. Rather, a website should diffuse risk. And more importantly, a website should add value.

VP develops clean, brand-tailored websites that elevate digital presence, and in turn, purify business ventures — doing so by assuring fonts, color palettes, organization, images, and other media work in unison. An effective web design should clearly depict what a brand stands for, while doing so in visually pleasing fashion. VP allocates time to meet this standard while you proceed to VenturePure.

But why is web design so important?

We live in a digital world my friends — a world where we reach into our pockets when we have questions. And due to this behavior, potential clients are often exposed to our websites prior to any face-to-face interaction. In fact, 90% of first impressions now happen online. And we all know the significance of leaving a positive one, especially when it comes to business.

Here’s where it gets even more dicey.

As humans, when we receive a first impression from a website, we determine whether it was positive or negative almost instantly. Our brains decide within 50 milliseconds to be precise; this is the amount of time we take to assess visual appeal.

To conclude, a poor web design can put a brand at risk of losing business within 0.05 seconds.

If you’re still reading, then this website presumably meets your standard in terms of visual appeal. And more importantly, it must have given you a solid first impression. VP would love to provide your business venture(s) with a modern first impression that makes people want to stick around.
